Welcome to your Required Next Semester Planning Workshop!
What is this?
Next Semester Planning Workshop (NSPW) advisement holds are placed on the records of students who are in their first semester within the College of Arts & Sciences (A&S). This includes: First-semester Freshman, Transfer students in their first semester at UNM in A&S, and Students who recently changed their major to something within A&S. In the past, this particular hold may have been listed by another name (New Student Learning Workshop), but they are one in the same!
This hold becomes active after the third week of classes during your first semester with us in the College. All students with this hold are REQUIRED to complete this workshop for it to be removed. This hold will prevent students from making changing to their schedule via LoboWeb and registering for future semesters. So, the sooner you complete this self-paced workshop, the better!
This workshop is designed to help you review important resources to empower you to take your educational plan into your own hands to complete the following:
- Understand how the University Catalog works and how to find information pertaining to your degree requirements, class descriptions, and any course prerequisites
- Practice running and reading your Lobotrax degree audit
- Review how to make an appointment and communicate with your advisor
- Develop a potential list of courses to register for in your next semester
How do I get the hold removed?
The hold will be removed upon successful completion of this online, self-paced workshop. Successful completion of the workshop is required just for your first semester. Once your hold is removed, you do not need to complete it again.
Students must score at least 8/10 points on the quiz AND submit a potential schedule for the upcoming semester in order for your advisement hold to be removed. Both of these pieces are embedded in the workshop.
If you score below this or are missing a list of potential courses, you will need to retake the quiz until both items are satisfied. Be sure to opt to send yourself an email of your results to have for your records at the end of the workshop.
Please be sure to follow all instructions in the link below to have your hold removed successfully.
*NOTE: If you are enrolled as a first-semester freshmen in a section of our ARSC 198: A Lobo's Guide to A&S, you do not need to complete this workshop as the information will be covered throughout the class. Your hold will be removed automatically pending your successful participation in the class.
