Advising Philosophy

As a man of color who comes from a migrant and seasonal farmworker family in rural New Mexico, I personally understand how overwhelming the transition to a university can be. I know firsthand the importance of having access to accurate information, mentorship, and institutional guidance. My lived experience informs my commitment to being both a gatekeeper of institutional knowledge and an ally who advocates for equitable access and opportunity. Especially within today's political climate in the United States, it is essential to support students regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic background, or immigration status.
My ultimate commitment as an advisor is to equity over equality, access over assumption, and empowerment over gatekeeping. I strive to create an advising environment where all students, regardless of background, have the opportunity, support, and encouragement to thrive.

About Me

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics from the University of New Mexico in 2017. My professional journey at UNM began in August 2019 as a Library Information Specialist, where I developed a strong foundation in student support and campus resources. In August 2024, I transitioned to the UNM CAMP & HEP programs as a recruiter, further deepening my commitment to serving and advocating for student success. I am currently an Advisor-in-Training, where I continue to grow my skills in academic guidance and mentorship. I am passionate about supporting students at the University of New Mexico. Outside of work, I enjoy lifting weights and am actively engaged in the fitness world, which helps me stay disciplined, focused, and motivated both personally and professionally.
