Advising Philosophy

Attending college is a time when students discover new interests and career paths they may not have previously thought about. Whether a student is an incoming freshman or a senior nearing graduation, it helps to have a place to discuss career goals, plan next steps, and voice any concerns. Academic advising is more than just telling students about degree program requirements; it’s also about encouraging them take full advantage of all that academic life has to offer. As an advisor, my aim is to help students navigate the University of New Mexico with confidence and develop an academic plan that fits their interests and post-graduation plans. Each student each has their own unique academic and professional goals. It is therefore the responsibility of an advisor to serve as a guide who listens to helping each student by providing encouragement, recognizing progress made, and connecting them to appropriate campus resources. Most importantly, I want Lobos to know that earning a degree is a journey they don’t have to navigate alone!

About Me

I was born in Washington state and grew up in Arizona but have been a proud New Mexican since 2010. I received a BA in English Studies and German in 2016 and an MA in German Studies in 2020, both from UNM. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education with a research focus on graduate student teaching and have worked in many different positions at UNM including as a German teaching assistant and writing tutor. I am excited for the opportunity to be an advisor in A&S and continue working with UNM students! In my free time, you can find me reading or cooking New Mexican food!
