Advising Philosophy

Academic advising serves as the compass guiding students through the maze that can be higher education. While Advising, it is my job to foster a partnership between advisors and students, taking into account their individual strengths and challenges. It’s about recognizing that each student is a unique constellation of dreams, talents, and ambitions, and guiding them along the path of their personal and professional goals. Effective academic advising is key to a student’s academic growth and success as well as fostering their own autonomy. It provides students with the resources and guidance needed to overcome obstacles and stay on track toward graduation. When students feel seen, heard, and supported, they are more likely to thrive academically, emotionally, and personally. I believe these kinds of student-centered advisement approaches are crucial in meting these goals with students.

About Me

I was born in Deming, NM, and after a short stay in Tennessee in my early childhood, Deming became my home again. I received a Bachelor's in Psychology with a minor is Chemical Dependency from WNMU. I moved to Albuquerque in the Summer of 2022 and began working with UNM’s Enrollment Management as an Admissions Advisor. I am excited to work more directly with UNM students!  Since moving here, I have rediscovered my love of crafts and reading. You may often find me working on a quilting project, searching for a new book series to sink into, or playing relaxing cozy games.
