Advising Philosophy

As an advisor I believe it is my role to provide the information and support that students need in their academic journey. I've personally found higher education to be an environment for a lot of personal growth as well as professional development but also know that it can be an intimidating and difficult space to maneuver in. Approaching students with open conversation, respect, and holistic support can be key in helping them remove obstacles from their paths and learn necessary skills for life after higher education.
Overall, my advising model seeks to focus on the whole student, ensure they know the resources available to them as a student at UNM, and work to address their individual needs. I've been told often since I arrived that you don't know what you don't know, and I would like to be a presence in student's lives that makes sure they are as well informed as they can be.
