Pre-Law
What might be pre-law at another school is any major - with the right knowledge - at UNM. Several departments offer Pre-Law concentrations: Sociology and Philosophy. These are by no means the only degrees to consider if you are interested in law school! In fact, to be a patent lawyer, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office requires a natural science or engineering background to even sit for the patent bar exam.
The UNM Pre-Law Society has compiled a list of resources, including the ten most popular majors represented in law school - all A&S fields - and why you might consider them given your academic and personal interests.
- Political Science
- Psychology
- History
- English
- Economics
- Sociology & Criminology
- Philosophy
- Interdisciplinary Humanities
ASCAS has a dedicated Pre-Law Advisor who supports current A&S students in reaching their goal of entering law school.
